Health + Fitness

Life Balance is the center of my coaching philosophy, but there are obviously other things that I'm a huge proponent of, and one of those is health  and fitness!

Health + Fitness has been a part of my life since I can remember. I grew up a multi-sport athlete--soccer (my fave! Obsessed!), volleyball, softball, basketball, etc. A total daddy's girl. 

But, anyways - if I've realized anything as a Beachbody coach, it's that there are certain things that are definitely strengths of mine! If any of these are things that you struggle with...let me hook you up!

The first - injuries...

Being a multi-sport athlete growing up, and playing soccer as much as I did in high school and beyond, I definitely experienced my fair share of injuries. Joint injuries run in my family, and I ultimately blew out my knee (ACL + meniscus in 2004), just my meniscus in 2006, and ultimately messed up my ankle (ATFL ligament 2012). When I moved for graduate school, I was plagued by injuries every time I tried to play soccer. So, I ultimately had to give it up and find other ways to stay in shape without putting too much strain on my many injured, and not 100%, joints and ligaments.

The second - no Idea of how to Be healthy without training for 2-3 hours a day!

As I talked about in My Story, I had no concept when I graduated high school and stopped playing competitive soccer of how to take care of myself physically, and emotionally on some level. Since the age of 12/13, I had been playing soccer 2-3 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Sometimes more! I could eat whatever the hell I wanted and spend all of my time laying around watching TV. So college was a rude awakening! And it took me a while to figure out how to structure in my workouts and how to eat healthy just for me, not for my sport.

I've realized over the years that my experiences have provided me with certain strengths and expertise when it comes to health + fitness...


If struggling with knee and ankle injuries for the past decade or more has taught me anything, it's this! Trying to stay on top of your health and fitness when you're dealing with an injury is HARD. I remember post-knee surgery in 2004 when I was on crutches for 6 weeks letting my meniscus heal how discouraging it was. I didn't know what to do with myself and I got very depressed. I remember post-ankle surgery in 2012 being in a boot for almost 8 weeks and being so frustrated about having to derail my exercise program once again. Staying healthy and motivated through an injury is hard. I've been there though, and I'm committed to helping others like you get through it!

Low IMPact modifications...

Even after an injury, there's no telling if you'll be at full strength again! Especially if you re-injure yourself! That's why knowing what moves will aggravate your injury and how to modify them is SO important. I do a number of programs that don't have appropriate modifications for my injuries (or sometimes for my level of strength). I have become very adept at identifying these moves and modifying as I need to for my injury.

Resetting your mind after an injury...

If you're an athlete and you've suffered from an injury, there's going to be a part of you that struggles to bounce back just because you're clinging to that fear of re-injury or the idea that you won't be as good as you were. There's definitely a period of skittish-ness. Sports psychologists will tell you that! I've been there and I want to help you get back to it.

Healthy Balance in a Busy Life...

Whether you're a crazy busy undergrad, med student, grad student, or young professional, there's going to be many a time when you want to back burner everything that you know is good for you because of your schedule! NEWS FLASH - life is busy for everyone! We prioritize what's a priority for us, whether it's work, family, & fitness! You know I believe that you're only at your best for your work and for your family when you're physically and emotionally at your best too. I know how good it feels to have this, and I know how crappy it feels when you don't prioritize your health. Over the course of my 4 years of undergrad, one of which was spent as a researcher/student/teaching assistant/asst. soccer coach, etc., and my almost 3 years of graduate school, I've learned what to do and what not to do when pursuing a healthy life! I am committed to teaching you what I've learned so that you don't let "I'm too busy" or "I don't have time" become your excuses for not taking care of yourself!

Meal Preparation...

The KEY to success! I swear, so many people take for granted the value of meal prep in living a healthy life! Not only does it save you time and energy in the long run, but taking cooking off your plate during your busy week is such a de-stressor!
