Why Women Should Quit Picking Our Bodies Apart

Alright ladies - I have a question for you...

Have you ever had a conversation like this?!?
"Gosh if we could take your boobs, and your legs, my butt, and my long waist...we'd have the perfect body!"
Guys - just roll with this, cuz us ladies do this shit all the time....
This was my friend and my lunch time conversation the other day. And it was A TOTAL girl conversation! 😂
It was all in lunch time goofiness and good fun.
But then she said something to me that caught me WAYYYYY off guard...
"And your thighs. I love your thighs!"
And I did a double take. Say what?!?! 😳

My legs have always been a point of self-consciousness for me.
They're short, stocky and muscular...
With stick thin models and the infamous thigh gap being big things in my generation, I admittedly have struggled with the fact that I am just not built that way.
I STILL catch myself looking in the mirror going "awesome from the side - not so much from the front."
I STILL struggle with that insecurity.
It's not nearly as prevalent as it used to be, but it's still there.
So, to hear someone, especially another woman, say that they love my thighs really surprised me.
And I'd be willing to bet a lot of money that I'm not the only one who has experienced something similar.

This little moment served as a big reminder for me...
A reminder that we need to STOP spending so much time picking our bodies apart.
"My butts too big/small. Arms are too skinny/flabby. I hate my curly/straight hair. I'm too short/tall. I'm too skinny/fat. I wish I had/didn't have curves..." and on and on.
And it's bullshit.
Because there's probably a woman in the same room, down the hall, around the corner, etc. that LOVES the thing you hate about your body.
That would KILL for what you have.
And yet we're all so quick to find the things about ourselves that we don't like.
STOP.
STOP NOW.

Short, tall, skinny, fat, big boobs, little boobs, flat pack, six pack, or maybe your six pack is in the refrigerator...
LET'S STOP FREAKING JUDGING OUR BODIES!
It's okay to want to improve. To want to get stronger. To want to get healthier.
But let's not HATE on ourselves along the way.
Let's not look in the mirror and define ourselves by the number on the scale.
By the size shirt, dress, or jeans that we wear.
By whether or not our bellies roll over the top of our jeans when we sit down.
Because guess what....EVERYONE'S DOES!!!!

Our bodies are freaking incredible.
They do so much amazing shit!
And someone else probably wants what you have anyway.
It's the curse of being a woman in this day and age of judgment, pop culture, magazines who's covers feature fad diets and photoshopped celebrities.
But it doesn't have to be.

We can choose to love our bodies.
We can choose to be proud of our bodies for all the shit they can do instead of judging them for the way they do or do not look.
We can choose to COMPLIMENT other women about how they look instead of judge them.
We can ALWAYS choose respect and love for ourselves and others.
And I get that sometimes that self-love thing is HARD.
But we can still CHOOSE that.
Always.
